REHABILITATION + ADAPTIVE REUSE
Originally built in 1939, the Hinman Research Building was the first building on Georgia Tech’s campus dedicated to industrial research. Designed by Harold Bush-Brown and P. M. Heffernan, both deans of the College of Architecture between 1925 and 1974, the building was expanded in 1951 with a series of smaller renovation projects to follow.
In 2008 (complete in 2011), Lord Aeck Sargent, in collaboration with Office dA, rehabilitated the structure for graduate architecture education and related research programs. Design studios, computer labs, jury and pinup areas were included.
BIM methodologies were integral to the project collaboration, design development, cost management and material fabrication.
